Java – Android Tabbed Activity closes the screen at the bottom

Does anyone know why the bottom is not on the screen in newly spawned tabbed activities in android?

ViewPager is too long for a full screen

    <android.support.v4.view.ViewPager
    android:id="@+id/container"
    android:layout_width="match_parent"
    android:layout_height="match_parent"
    app:layout_behavior="@string/appbar_scrolling_view_behavior" />

If you align them to the bottom of the screen, all Views in the resulting child fragment will leave the screen 55dp.
