The next time you make a long-range weapon attack during the spell’s duration, the weapon’s ammo or the weapon itself (if the weapon is a throwing weapon) becomes a beam of lightning.

Make an attack check in the normal way. If the attack hits, the target takes 4d8 points of lightning damage. If it misses, the damage is halved. That is, the lightning damage replaces the normal damage of the weapon.
Regardless of whether your attack hits, every creature within 10 feet of the target must make an agility save. If the save fails, it takes 2d8 points of lightning damage. If the save is successful, the damage is halved.
After this, the ammunition or weapon returned to its normal form.
Ascending ring cast effect. When casting this spell with a 4th or higher spell slot, each time you use a spell slot that is one ring higher than the 3rd ring, the two types of lightning damage increase by 1d8 each.
