Java – Android crashes during registration for push notifications

Android crashes during registration for push notifications… here is a solution to the problem.

Android crashes during registration for push notifications

I’m using gcm.jar for push notifications. When I launch my app, I’m trying to register for push notifications, but it keeps crashing.

And my Menifest.xml is

My BroadcastReciever code is as follows

public class GCMIntentService extends GCMBaseIntentService {

@SuppressWarnings("hiding")
private static final String TAG = "GCMIntentService ";

public GCMIntentService() {
    super(SENDER_ID);
}

    PreferenceManager.getDefaultSharedPreferences(context).edit()
            .putString("REGISTRATION_KEY", registrationId).commit();
}

@Override

     Debuger.e(TAG, "Device unregistered");
}

}

@Override

@Override
protected boolean onRecoverableError(Context context, String errorId) {
     log message
    return super.onRecoverableError(context, errorId);
}

private void handleMessage(Context context, Intent intent) {
     Do whatever you want with the message
    String order_ID = intent.getStringExtra("order_id");
    String status_ID = intent.getStringExtra("status_id");
    String message = intent.getStringExtra("message");

if (!message.equals("")) {
        if (order_ID != null && status_ID != null & !status_ID.equals("4")) {
            Bundle bundle = new Bundle();
            bundle.putInt("fromGetItem", 2);
            mainIntent = new Intent(context.getApplicationContext(),
                    MainActivity.class);
            mainIntent.putExtras(bundle);
            mainIntent.setFlags(Intent.FLAG_ACTIVITY_NEW_TASK);
            context.startActivity(mainIntent);
        }
        generateNotification(context, message, mainIntent);
    }
}

private static void generateNotification(Context context, String message,
        Intent notificationIntent) {
    int icon = R.drawable.ic_launcher;
    long when = System.currentTimeMillis();
    NotificationManager notificationManager = (NotificationManager) context
            .getSystemService(Context.NOTIFICATION_SERVICE);
    Notification notification = new Notification(icon, message, when);

String title = context.getString(R.string.app_name);

PendingIntent intent = PendingIntent.getActivity(context, 0,
            notificationIntent, 0);
    notification.setLatestEventInfo(context, title, message, intent);
    notification.flags |= Notification.FLAG_AUTO_CANCEL;

 Play default notification sound
    notification.defaults |= Notification.DEFAULT_SOUND;

 Vibrate if vibrate is enabled
    notification.defaults |= Notification.DEFAULT_VIBRATE;
    notificationManager.notify(0, notification);
}
}

How do I fix this crash?

Solution

I think you are receiving and processing your messages

@Override
protected void onMessage(Context context, Intent intent) {
        handleMessage(context, intent);
}

I don’t know much when an app sends a device registration request to google, but sometimes google returns a message, so if you’re parsing a message and the intent doesn’t get your bundle, it returns null so the app crashes.
You can try the following code, which may help.

@Override
protected void onMessage(Context context, Intent intent) {
    Bundle[{CMD=RST_FULL, from=google.com/iid}]
    Bundle bundle = intent.getExtras();
    if (bundle != null) {
        if (!bundle.containsKey("CMD")) {
            handleMessage(context, intent);
        }
    }
}
