How is Muslim prayer time calculated in Java – Android apps?

I’m working on my UNI project to develop an Android app. I decided to develop an app that would tell users when to pray for Muslims every day. But since I’m new to android (and programming in general), I don’t know how to implement it. I’ve done some research myself and found that some web services provide JSON or XML files to fetch data, or there should be Java tools/libraries available. Whether anyone has developed or experienced with these topics.
