You can cast this spell through solid objects, but you must be familiar with the target of the spell and know that it is behind the barrier. Magical silence, 1-foot-thick stone, 1-inch-thick ordinary metal, a thin piece of lead, or 3-foot-thick wood can block the spell. The spell does not need to transmit information in a straight line, it can turn corners or go through holes freely.
