How does dnd 5e polymorph work?
This polymorph 5e spell transforms creatures you can see within a cast range into a new form. An involuntary creature must make a perception save to avoid this effect. This spell cannot be applied to creatures with a shapeshifting or 0 health. The changes made by the spell are maintained for the duration of the spell, or until the target’s health drops to 0 or dies.
The new form can be any beast with a challenge level of less than or equal to the target itself (if the target does not have a challenge level, the level is used as the benchmark). The target game data and mental related attribute values will be replaced by the attribute data of the selected beast. And its camp and personality remain.
The target uses its new form of health. When it returns to its normal form, it immediately restores the health before the change. If the target returns to normal form when its health drops to 0, its normal form needs to take all the overflow damage. As long as the overflow damage does not reduce the creature’s normal form health to 0, it will not fall into a coma due to the blow.
The creature’s actions can be limited due to its new form. It cannot speak, cannot cast spells, and cannot make other movements that require hands and speech. The target’s equipment is integrated into the new form, but it cannot be activated, used, brandished, or otherwise gained from its equipment.
